The Meuse - Belgian mining area

Delft-FLS has also been applied to simulate the inundation along the Meuse valley during the high water of January 1995 and for more extreme design floods. Flooding and drying processes were simulated correctly during a four day flood.

Other simulations have been used to evaluate the safety of the mining area in Belgium, on the Belgian side of the Meuse River. Ground levels in this area have been dropping during the last decades due to mining activities. The images below show the possible inundation of this area due to dike overtopping during an extreme flood event (depicted at left).
